New Player in Designer Resale sites

For all of you who struggled with the established websites and had the frustration with the old, a new player is there, called Joli Closet (Joli Closet)

The downside is it is not very well known at the moment and the website is in English and French only, for the moment, but apparently this should change soon.

The upside (massive) is free listing and sending and their commission is 15% if you list yourself and 25% if they handle everything and you just send them the items and they handle descriptions, pictures, measurements and store the items. So basically the commission for their complete service is considerably lower than what Rebelle and Vestiaire charge if you list yourself. The downside if your item should not pass the quality test, you have to pay for them sending it back, if you send a fake, they will ban you and report you. As somebody who does hate fakes, I like that approach.

After seeing so many posts and speaking with a ton of people who had really massive problems with the other sites, this seems like a breath of fresh air.

The biggest problem with Vestiaire is the steady price dumping, something that Rebelle now adopted, the lack of response, something Rebelle adopted now too, the totally erratic checking process both Rebelle and Vestiaire have. There were posts all over that apparently things are forever in quality check, the quality check if anything is inconsistent, some people put the same item on again with the same description, the 2nd time they passed the control without a hitch, not exactly trust inspiring or consistent.

If you write them a message, you get the same standard copy and paste reply, nothing ever changes and as a seller, you feel like the cash cow and that they expect you to be grateful to pay a massive commission.
To celebrate the new year, Rebelle sent a message about how they are going to change their terms and conditions, obviously not to the benefit of anyone but Rebelle. Rebelle is also trying to force you to list nowhere else but on Rebelle, so in short to accept dumping prices and maybe not sell your item if you are not ready to give it away for next to nothing.

Another thing Rebelle started doing, which would not be a bad idea if they would actually do it right, is that they suggest what an item costs new, but apparently they are using some odd program that only picks up the items that are in discount shops, so your 500 dress might be declared as 100 new, and obviously buyers will make you offers that are even more lowball than usual.

I said enough about the website and how bad the picture service is, random uploads, the site having problems, the mad flash, the general lack of service, it honestly does not justify their massive commission, again, they grew much too fast and are a bit too arrogant for their own good, just like VC, who has a bunch of other problems.

Personally I am totally happy about the new player Joli Closet and wish them the best of luck and hopefully they will really not turn into something like Rebelle or Vestiaire. Friends have sold some items via Joli and said they were totally happy, the quality check took between 1 and 3 days, pay out was made fairly quick and reliable, there are still hitches that they do not have every brand and it is difficult to search for colours, but I expect that will be smoothed out.

While I bitched in the past about HEWI, and yes, they have raised their commission too, however they seem to be more responsive now, but again, it is erratic, but there is hope. Just as a buyer I would recommend extreme caution, some of their VIP sellers are having high end bags that turned out to be not genuine.

HEWI

Wow, just checked my messages, apparently 5 people who weren't happy with HEWI and posted on Trustpilot had the reviews flagged as false, some apparently even had a response from HEWI and HEWI promised to make it right (so obviously real customers) I just checked it and now there is a flurry of posts claiming how great they are, usually from people with just 1 post... Obviously not shady at all and they are just fabulous... And that cough you hear, must be me having a cold... I guess HEWI must be paying them handsomely, I guess a website being paid by the supplier claiming to be independent and give real reviews is errrrr trustworthy... I used to sell on HEWI ages ago, until I found the real players, haven't listed anything there in ages because I simply can't deal with the staff, the site says approval happens within minutes, yeah, like their pay out happens after X amount of day. Totally fed up with messages saying "due to the age and condition of your item"...

Rebelle price gauging

Seems Rebelle has totally gone the way of price gouging now too, several of you have sent screen shots, the "argument" they use is "This recommendation is based on our experience selling similar items, on the popularity of the brand and on the items condition." Oddly enough if you then look it up on their website, you see other items, often much older and of inferior materials, listed for a much higher price, since they are getting a percentage, I can only assume that they want a quick turn over and are prepared to cater to the masses and sacrifice the sellers.  Or they might simply just have another student doing the job. It's actually something that seems to be happening frequently and judging from the comments I got, rather shamelessly with prince dumping that is beyond the pale. So if you are a seller, list in as many places as possible. If you are a buyer, check the item description, Google is your friends, you might find a way to contact the seller, i...

Trustpilot - Do NOT trust

Seriously, totally odd, I won't say crooked but the thought is hard to push away... Companies I rated highly and replied to their email to review them, the review was flagged and disappeared, after notifying the companies, apparently they had not upgraded the service... Companies who deliver horrendous services, well, if you rate them low, the reviews disappear the "automatic software" identified it... Personally, I am not relying on Trustpilot anymore, totally worthless
